One of the most fascinating stories in the bible is the story of David and Goliath, If you are a Christian you should have read or heard about this wonderful story how a little shepherd boy with absolutely no military training was able to defeat the strongest man of the enemy’s army, a great giant whom no man in Israel could muster the courage to challenge.
A lot of times when I am faced with problems that seems too big for me to solve based on my personal abilities I quickly roll back my thoughts to that story to realize that I have the greatest giant at the top fighting on my side who is much bigger than any gigantic problem here on earth.
Sometimes the problems that couples in intermarriages or relationships face can be overwhelming and it leads to the short life span most of such relationship or marriages have, at the beginning the first questions are how well his or her family members receive me, will they accept me for the foreigner that I am or will they want me to change automatically and live like they do?.
Another vital question especially for the men will be, can my foreign wife actually leave her country of birth and resettle back in my country if and when my sojourn outside my country comes to a successful end?.
Personally when faced with these questions that do translate to problems looking too big to solve, I believe we should realize that where many have actually lost hope of success based on personal abilities is where God likes to come in and play his role as our creator.
Therefore we should enjoy the relationship without must thought to the answers to these two questions only keeping our faith with God knowing that we come from two different countries and two different cultural backgrounds and accept our differences as our unique selling points as individuals then we can look unto God to help us overcome the challenges they may bring forth just as he helped young David defeat the seemingly undefeatable giant Goliath.
Love and relationships aside, the story of David and Goliath is meant to continually strengthen anyone who feels problems, challenges and the struggles of life are insurmountable , if you have the time and data allowance to watch the children bible story video below (which is an excellent way as a parent I teach my children about God).
I have every confidence that you can once again think less of those difficulties but more of the great wonderful God you serve, and when I say God , it’s the Almighty God, Almighty Allah or Chineke as we Igbo’s call him, God is the same , in the time of David, now and forever more.
